Our House

I recorded this when my son, Luka, was a baby and it’s only now being released! Love this gem of a song by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. Love to the recently departed and beloved David Crosby. Thanks for giving us songs like this that will forever bring love into this world (and to calm weeping babes). I still cry every time I hear this song.

The idea of home is an interesting topic in OUR house…. We talk about it a lot with Luka, as we are rarely in one place for long. He often asks where is home? It’s a piece of our nomadic life that carries uncertainty for all of us...

My life has been nomadic. I have lived in over 25 homes!! Yep - I lost count!! New York City. Los Angeles. Upstate NY. Berlin. Pennsylvania. New Orleans. They ALL feel like home to me. I think I lived in 3-4 different homes my first year in Los Angeles alone… 

It’s hard to be peaceful with the ever changing world. It’s easier to hang on tight to what’s familiar. But the world, our environment, our jobs, our dreams, our plans, our friends, our homes, our emotions, our bodies, and our minds are always changing. 

I sometimes feel that if we were anchored in one place, our lives would be simpler. Then again, I realize that if we hadn't lived in so many places, we wouldn't have grown family and friendships across the globe that we cherish so deeply. We are who we are because of the people and places that have shaped us. And I truly believe that Luka will benefit from learning to be flexible and adaptable, as well as knowing that our family will remain intact through all the changes. What I have come to realize is that nothing stays the same and all we have is time well spent with the ones we love the most.

So my answer to my sweet, intelligent, brave little guy is that  “home” is wherever we are, and all that matters is that we are together.  And that we are so lucky to have people we love in so many parts of the world and so many places we can feel at home.

With all that said: For now we are currently quite happily in “Our Los Angeles House,” enjoying our kitty Olive, our magical plants and rocks, and getting a much needed boost of Vitamin D love (after a year and half of winter going from Australia winter to Berlin winter last year!!). 

It's a beautiful privilege to finally release this track. I dedicate “Our House” to my sweet family and to my incredible friends who hold pieces of our hearts scattered around the globe. I love you all and wish we could all live in a commune in Vermont herding sheep and planting carrots together. (One Day).
